FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 22, 2011 Available for Purchase: Faith of an Outdoorsman at https://www.createspace.com/3590561 New Mexico Author Publishes New Book – Faith of an Outdoorsman Sandia Park, New Mexico resident, Jeff Young is pleased to announce the publication of his book, Faith of an Outdoorsman. It took more than ten months to write but in reality has taken his lifetime to experience. The book is a 365 Day Devotional for Outdoorsman. “Its pages contain a collection of stories, thoughts, and reflections based on my 40 years as an outdoorsman, all based in New Mexico or Southern Colorado,” says Jeff. “ I saw a void in bringing faith together with the outdoor passions that exist in so many of us. This book is an attempt to bridge that gap.” “Of all my outdoor passions, fly fishing is my favorite and the subject of many of the stories in the book. That’s not all the book is about as my family and I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hunting, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, and trail running among others. The book also includes a few stories about my feeble attempts at rock climbing and a couple of stories about my time on the farm that deal with building corrals and irrigating cotton. There is some humor as well, with titles like Ya Wanna be a Mountain Man, Ya Gotta Have a Mountain Woman, and Guns on the Bed.” “I wanted the book to be more than something people would read, but something that could be used to have an impact with any profits it generated. I selected the organizations below based on what I felt to be a perfect fit with the book and because of the credibility of these organizations. It was difficult to narrow down so I decided to go with all four organizations.” Twenty-five percent of the profits from the sale of the book will go to: Fathers in the Field, whose mission is to rekindle and establish the spirit of boys who have been abandoned by their fathers; World Vision, a domestic Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to over poverty and injustice, and New Mexico Wildlife Federation, dedicated to protecting wildlife, their habitat and the sportsman’s outdoor way of life, and the New Mexico Council of Trout Unlimited, dedicated to preserving protecting and restoring North America’s cold waters fisheries in their watersheds. “The idea to write the book came to me after I realized we only had pictures to document our experiences. I was especially inspired by the writings of Elliot Barker, late, former Director of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. Elliot’s timeless recordings of his adventures in the wilds of New Mexico along with Homer Picken’s book, Tracks Across New Mexico, inspired me to do the same. Of course, my most important inspiration was from the word of God and the call I felt to write this devotional to draw myself and others closer to our Lord.” “My favorite part of the book is that I was able to combine my passions of family, faith and the outdoors. Even if the book fails to sell a copy, I believe it was worth the effort. My kids and grandkids will have lasting memories through the timeless stories and reflections that fill the pages of this book and allow them to connect with the Lord through their love of the outdoors. I am excited about the book and hope it will inspire and enrich the lives of all who read it.” Jeff’s book is available through Amazon.com and the Faith of an Outdoorsman E Store at https://www.createspace.com/3590561. The book should be available in the near future at bookstores everywhere and Charlie’s Sporting Goods in Albuquerque. Jeff is planning several book signings around Albuquerque. His first book signing will be at Charlie’s Sporting Goods on Friday, July 22nd, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. His book will also be featured in a story in the New Mexico Wildlife Federations Outdoor Reporter.
